Week 3 | Joy

Scripture: Luke 1:46–55

Mary's Song

And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord

and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

for he has been mindful

of the humble state of his servant.

From now on all generations will call me blessed,

for the Mighty One has done great things for me—

holy is his name.

His mercy extends to those who fear him,

from generation to generation.

He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;

he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.

He has brought down rulers from their thrones

but has lifted up the humble.

He has filled the hungry with good things

but has sent the rich away empty.

He has helped his servant Israel,

remembering to be merciful

to Abraham and his descendants forever,

just as he promised our ancestors.”

Devotional:

When Mary discovered she would be the mother of Jesus, her heart overflowed with joy, not because her life suddenly became easy, but because God was with her and working through her. Joy is not something the world gives; it is something the Spirit grows within us.

True joy isn’t based on what we have, but on who holds our future. When we look back and remember God’s faithfulness, we find reasons to celebrate even in difficult seasons. Mary rejoiced because she knew God keeps His promises, and He was inviting her into His plan.

As God invites Gateway into a season of bold faith, we respond with joy, believing many more people will come to know Jesus, find community, and experience transformation. Joy grows when we join God in what He is already doing.

Discussion Question:

What is one specific way you can discover joy by joining God in what He is already doing?

Family Activity:

Have each person share one joy by sharing one good thing God has done. Celebrate those together.

Prayer Focus:

Thank Jesus for the joy He brings today and ask Him to fill you with joy and help you spread His joy to others.
