Week 2 | Peace

Advent Week 2 | Peace

Week 2 | Peace

Scripture: Luke 2:8–14

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Devotional:

The angels proclaimed peace on earth - not because everything was calm, but because Jesus had come. The world Jesus was born into was filled with political conflict, injustice, and fear. Peace didn’t mean the absence of trouble; it meant God’s presence in the middle of it.

Our families are often stretched thin during this time of year with busy schedules, financial stress, and complicated relationships. Yet Jesus invites us to rest in His peace. The peace He gives is supernatural - a calm that guards our hearts even when circumstances feel chaotic.

Because Jesus came, peace is no longer something we have to create or protect; it’s something we can receive. As you move through this Christmas season, slow down long enough to breathe in the peace of Christ. He is with you. He is for you. And His peace is stronger than anything that feels unsettled in your world today.

Discussion Question:

What burden or worry do you need to hand over to Jesus today?

Family Activity:

Have each family member take 3–5 minutes to make a private list titled, “What’s stealing my peace right now?” These can be pressures, decisions, relationships, deadlines, or anxieties.

Then invite each person to name one item from their list that they’re willing to entrust to Jesus this week.

Close by reading Luke 2:14 aloud together.

Prayer Focus:

Pray together, asking Jesus to bring peace into the specific areas mentioned by each family member.
